Michael Sng,
CEO & Managing Partner, Chairman of the Investment Committee

Michael initiated the establishment of TAEL Partners in 2007. As the CEO & Managing Partner, he has led the firm to make investments totaling more than US$1.6 billion in Southeast Asia. In particular, Michael has successfully expanded the coverage of TAEL to Vietnam since 2013. He has 40 years of experience in building businesses, undertaking financial transactions and forging relationships with business founders and corporations across Southeast Asia. He spent 16 years at Schroders where he held various senior positions, established Schroders’ businesses in Malaysia and was appointed as Schroder’s first country head of Malaysia. He was also responsible for the financial markets division for Southeast Asia as its head and held board directorships at Schroders Singapore and Malaysia. In 1999, Michael was head hunted to establish UOB Asia, the investment banking subsidiary of UOB where he successfully built its entire investment banking business with presence in Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand and Indonesia. Michael graduated from National University of Singapore with a Bachelor of Arts degree, majoring in economics.

Ati Sugiharti,

Ati has been instrumental in leading TAEL's investments in Indonesia, leveraging on her transactions experience and business relationships built over some 33 years. Through her experience at JP Morgan Chase, Banker Trust Securities and Citibank N.A., she focused on corporate finance transactions across industries and advised many of the largest corporate groups in the region. Prior to co-founding TAEL, Ati was the head of investment banking Indonesia in UOB Asia Limited where she also built the organization’s capital market capabilities. The Indonesian team pioneered several transactions, including the first leverage financing and the first international syndicated deal post Asian financial crisis. Ati is deputy chairperson of the investment committee in TAEL. She drives the portfolio management process and ensures the investment team maximizes the value of the investments made in the respective countries. Ati is also a member of Angel Investment Network Indonesia. She holds a Bachelor of Engineering degree from the Civil Engineering and Planning Faculty of Institut Teknologi Bandung and a Master of Management from the PPM School of Management in Indonesia.

Loong Mei Yin,

Mei Yin is a co-founder of TAEL Partners. With her over 30 years’ experience working with a diverse range of business groups in Malaysia and Thailand, Mei Yin currently spearheads TAEL's investments in these two countries. Before co-founding TAEL, she headed the Thai investment banking team of UOB Asia where she was entrusted to develop and expand UOB’s capital market activities, and service a growing list of Thai corporates. Prior to joining UOB Asia, Mei Yin was a Manager at Schroders Malaysia (L) Bhd where her experience encompassed the broad spectrum of capital raising activities for Malaysian corporates, both in terms of straight debt and equity-linked transactions executed via the onshore and offshore markets. Mei Yin holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Monash University, Australia, majoring in accounting, finance and computer science.

Janet Phang,

Janet is one of the founding members of TAEL Partners and oversees finance, human resources and group corporate secretarial matters for TAEL Partners and its regional offices. She also oversees the middle office function for the funds managed by TAEL Partners. Janet has 33 years’ experience, and was previously with UOB Asia, managing Regional Finance and Administration, as well as supervising compliance. Janet graduated with a Bachelor of Business (Business Administration) (Distinction) from the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology University, Melbourne, Australia.

Jonathan Lim,

Jonathan is one of the founding members of TAEL Partners. With over 25 years’ experience in Southeast Asia, he currently heads the investor relations team. Prior to TAEL, he was with the investment banking team in UOB Asia for 7+ years, having been stationed in Bangkok, Singapore and Kuala Lumpur. Prior to UOB, Jonathan worked for Warburg Dillon Read, Kuala Lumpur. Jonathan holds an MA in Economics from Cambridge University.

Arnold is one of the founding members of TAEL Partners. With over 28 years’ experience under his belt, Arnold co-heads the Indonesia investment coverage of TAEL Partners. He was previously with the investment banking team in UOB Asia, where he covered Singapore, Malaysia, Philippines and Indonesia. Arnold graduated from Ateneo de Manila University, Philippines with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management (Honors Program).

May joined TAEL Partners in 2009. With over 27 years’ experience, May is the country head of Vietnam, where she is responsible for overseeing TAEL’s investments in the country. Prior to joining TAEL, she spent about 12 years in investment banking, corporate finance and audit. She started her career in PricewaterhouseCoopers, Kuala Lumpur in 1996 and was with various Malaysian investment banks such as AmInvestment Bank Berhad, RHB Investment Bank Bhd (2005 – 2007) and Public Investment Bank Berhad (2001 – 2005). May is an ACCA Chartered Certified Accountant and a member of the Malaysia Institute of Accountants.

Pauline heads the Legal and Compliance team of TAEL, with over 19 years of post-qualified legal experience, primarily in areas of private equity, take-overs, mergers and acquisitions, and corporate finance. She commenced her career as a private practitioner in a reputable boutique corporate law firm in Kuala Lumpur. Prior to joining TAEL, she was with PETRONAS and Usaha Tegas Group. Pauline was admitted as advocate and solicitor of the High Court of Malaya in 2004.

Aun Siew Kuan,

Siew Kuan is highly experienced in structuring the full spectrum of capital market solutions. She was the former Chief Executive Officer of ZICO Capital Sdn Bhd, a mid-market corporate finance advisory firm licensed by the Securities Commission of Malaysia. Having been in the industry for over 30 years, Siew Kuan currently spearheads TAEL’s current private credit initiative given her experience in servicing mid-market and large corporates. She is member of the Malaysian Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Malaysia Institute of Accountants, and was awarded the Certified Financial Analyst previously.
